Come as two names. Leave as one family.
There is a tangible merit in allowing one's personality to drive the direction in which their lives move. My wife Alvie has always been a wonderful extrovert: an amicable person whose personality affects those around her. I always find that the people she meets and befriends are those I get along with easily - and so I've learned to trust her judgement of character willingly.
When she told me about her friend Allison from work, the manner about which she described her told me immediately that this person was someone we'd welcome into our lives as "hanai" family. Fast forward a mere 3-4 months and there I was in Florida, getting ready to capture her wedding to David.
Allison's family is equally incredible. They are boisterous, hilarious, and loving. It's clear that they have no desire in "growing up," that life is for the living, and anyone else brave enough to join along was in for a ride. I know Allison and David will prosper because they remind me so much of what I'm blessed with in my life: a strong support system bolstering an even stronger bond between husband and wife.
It was a great honor, friends.
